Title: My ongoing work
Post by: Lisbon Virgo on May 24, 2012, 06:35:49 AM
Since I can't post pictures from my iPod or smart phone, I've created a tumblr blog to show my artwork on.

http://rockbox1590.tumblr.com

I'm kind of excited to show off my early designs for Lisbon. He's still very much a work in progress, but he's coming along rather nicely.

A "nude" of Lisbon. His final colors, markings, and hairstyle.

So, um, I did this: (http://i.imgur.com/LJNbx.jpg)
After Noben said she was bringing 80's fashions into Altermeta, I decided to make some changes to Lisbon. Done with 0.3 drafting pencil, and inked and colored with Copic. I'm really please with how this came out. I'm really starting to get back into the groove with my drawings. :)

Better each time. Back in the groove definitely. Pose is a bit stiff. Liked how the lower jaw is thrust.

Meet Xyn Amaranthe. (http://i.imgur.com/9JGZf.jpg) She's Lisbon's best friend/eventual girlfriend/soulmate. She's also the individual who drives Lisbon up the wall and into trouble the most. :)

I just had a nice surprise. :) I got an iPad Mini, and just discovered that I can upload pics directly to DeviantART with it. :) I've downloaded a number of art apps, so I'm hoping to get some stuff up again soon.

Sat down and really focused on drawing on my iPad tonight. This was done in the Pen & Ink app.

Very nice! That does look like pencil on paper, but I'm guessing that may the point of the  'pen & ink' app.
Let's see......
*fires up the iPad*
Free???
Hells yeah!

Yep, digital. :) I downloaded about a dozen or so art apps for my iPad and have been messing around with them. I want to get a precision pressure stylus, but those start at $50 and only go higher. :(

Wraa, I went and bought all the extra brushes and settings for Pen & Ink. It's worth the purchase. There's a companion app named Graphite that focuses on pencil work and sketches. It's also free. :)

Here's a reference sheet for Lisbon I did a few months back. Drawn by hand and colored with copic markers.

Looks good with one small critque: On the from behind shot, you have the inner ears facing backwards. Looks good, solid design!
Title: Re: My ongoing work
Post by: Lisbon Virgo on May 30, 2013, 04:38:54 PM
I didn't know how the back of the ears looked at the time. :) I will keep that in mind for the updated reference sheet I want to do.

Next up is Lisbon's best friend and future girl friend, Xyn.

Then we have Lisbon's older brother, Liam. This is an unfinished picture I plan on either finishing digitally or redoing entirely. Liam is the equivalent of a kuvvie pro wrestler.

This was a Bruce Timm inspired take on Lisbon and a male kuvvie in general.

Boobs!.. Erm.. Khm.. I mean very nice. You say these are hand colored?
Title: Re: My ongoing work
Post by: Lisbon Virgo on May 31, 2013, 06:31:27 AM
Wraa: some are reference, like Xyn's rear view, but most are free hand.

Dreaker: yeah, these are colored and inked with Copic Markers. The photos are bad because of the lighting in my room. I'll see about taking pics in better lighting here soon.
Title: Re: My ongoing work
Post by: Wraa on May 31, 2013, 07:44:46 PM
That is quite good! I'm kinda jealous! :) I can rarely do much with bodies as far as free handing it goes. I work best when I have a reference to work from.

One of my biggest issues, besides having my figures appear stiff, is that I can never figure out where to pose arms.

One of my biggest issues, besides having my figures appear stiff, is that I can never figure out where to pose arms.

Actually the two issues are probably the same, references help. Cartoon characters also have their own "look" for poses and position sometimes. While some instructors favor using mannequins, I found them not as helpful- beyond showing perspective and useful to figure out lighting.

Lighting- Maybe you should try taking pictures of completed art outdoors in daylight?

This is on the back of one of my sketchbooks. Greyson Moone isn't giving the finger, it just looks that way.  :|

Greyson is also a wild child like Xyn, but she's more the party girl vs Xyn's tomboy.

Also a pic of her in an exercise outfit.

One of my biggest issues, besides having my figures appear stiff, is that I can never figure out where to pose arms.

I think many people have trouble deciding what to do with their arms which is probably why smoking became so popular. Maybe you could have the arms cut out and pretend it was to provide a better visual on the chest and shoulders

Title: Re: My ongoing work

Seem to be a lot of women's shoes that do look painful. I'm wondering, since  we see the toes and their claws, if the heel isn't just that, a heel. If so, it is an interesting idea and design for Kuvrahk footwear.
Title: Re: My ongoing work

Russ: these pics go back maybe 9 months or so. I hit a period were I stopped drawing again. :( I've work beyond that now, so, yay! :)

Wraa: got it in one. Open toed boots. Since we see a lot of kuvvies wearing sandals I thought foot fashion would reflect that.

I'd like to introduce Ms Amelie Breeder, also know as adult entertainer Amanda Briid'Mii (Breed Me). She Xyn's aunt, and current legal guardian. I'll more pics of her in the RLD. She's acting as my muse right now. :)

I should probably put some clothes on her, shouldn't I?
Title: Re: My ongoing work
Post by: Liram on August 21, 2013, 04:48:04 AM
Well if she's only acting as your muse she could probably use some clothes. I'm sure you could come up with other things for her to do as well though...

like sweeping... in the nude

I had an idea for a new character and have been sketching her all day. Her name is Alexis. I haven't come up with her last name yet. She's shy, and rather timid. Think Flutter Shy, but as a Kuvrahk.

Well done. She might be larger if "with egg". Tail is almost same as T's Red Scaled love hunk.

Any reason for their (most of them) lack of hair?
Title: Re: My ongoing work
Post by: Lisbon Virgo on September 09, 2013, 08:10:23 PM
Well, your observations tell me I need to work on the pose a bit more. Her figure is normal. She's supposed to be hunched over a bit looking down towards her waist and crotch. I'll see if I can find a reference to fix it up a bit. I'm intending for one of my other girls to be in the picture too. It'll explain a few things about Alexis.

Russ: outside of Amanda, all my characters have hair. I just get impatient to show off my work and post work in progress pics. :)

Title: Re: My ongoing work
Post by: Lisbon Virgo on September 13, 2013, 06:39:15 AM
Well, she's embarrassed by nudity in general, but that won't be the case here. I want to add Xyn and Greyson to the picture while revealing Alexis' secret. It's something that she's afraid will get her ostracized from the people she'd like to be friends with and outcast from most social groups. The thing is, it's something she really doesn't have to worry about.

She's more defined/proportioned. I for one would like to see Greyson because (correct me if wrong) he's not been drawn yet.

A short 15 minute sketch, again in Pen & Ink. I'm using the thin brush at its minimum setting and 75% opacity. The quick gestures really give an ink pen feel, similar to my Pentel Brush Pen. I'm also starting to get the Bruce Timm style of sketching. This has me excited to keep working, and to try the style in the more advanced apps I have. I may finish this as Lisbon's brother Gianni, formerly Liam.

I threw some quick colors on to get a feel for how I'll eventually color this. The sonic screwdriver should look sonic-screwdriver-ish now. This pic will be done in two stages. The first will be the cleaned up pic with color with the intent to meet the deadline of Halloween. The second stage will finish the pic and add the proper trench coat and background.

In progress pregnant Xyn. This is a look into Lisbon and Xyn's future together. Xyn is hoping for a girl, Lisbon is hoping he'll be a better father than his dad was. Spoiler alert: he will be. :)

Edit: laid down base colors and her markings. I wanted to add her freckles, but I couldn't get them to look right. :(

Edit 2: a little further along this evening. Added some subtle shadows to her body, and added shadows and highlights to her hair.

Two quick pics here. First is the final (for now) or pregnant Xyn. I need to do more work and add a background, but I'm starting to get frustrated with my lack of knowledge and don't want to screw anything up.

The second is a simple sketch of Xyn's aunt, Amanda Briid'Mii. She's on the set and directing a scene. :)

New pic I'm working on. The pose is from a Jay Naylor pic, and as such I'm not sure if I want/can post this to my FA account. I wanted you guys to see it, even if no one else does. I will be finishing it. This will end up being Xyn, teasing Lisbon as she's want to do. ;)

I'm pretty sure I've got the Jay pic you're talking about in my faves. Tis a great pose and would look awesome with many characters but it does so especially here.

Do you guys think there would be any issue with me uploading it to FA once it's done? I'm fully intending to site the source of the pose. I just don't want the FA lynch mobs coming after me saying I copied him.

I don't see what possible problem there could be. As long as you give due credit where credit is due, I say go for it.

My udderbunnies, Ishtar and Harlan. Ishtar's name is the proper pronunciation, Easter. :)

These are the bunnies' base colors. Highlights are coming next. Ishtar is not a familiar, where Harlan is. His wizard is named Ulorin, and is a anthro tiger.

heh, the teats on those udders look pretty appropriate. a more cartoony style then noben used, they look more sillyfun and slightly distorted
