Anyone see the irony here, the big media EMPIRE chasing down and ASSIMILATING the newer upstart rebellious crew.

May the market shares be with you.  :/

I don't get the bitching. As has been pointed out many times, Disney bought out Marvel not long ago. What did we get out of that? The Avengers with Joss Whedon directing. Awesome. Disney buys Lucas Arts, what will we get? Star Wars without George Lucas directing. Awesome.

Hoping you are right. Disney/Pixar was a fairly good combo too. A devout SW fan gave me a three word run down about Lucas as to why we should not panic but instead keep calm and carry on'
" Jar Jar Binks"

Just runs against my grain seeing conglomerates grabbing up what they please.

I wonder what would happen if Casey started animating AM and Disney bought the franchise up?

How would Eisner treat Sasha?   :P :O

I like Star Wars. I would love it more if they would drop the whole Jedi-lightsaber-force nonsense or expand it and make it more varied. Some use the force to push people, read minds etc etc but other should use it the create blizzards, animate the dead, throw fire balls... Would be cool spaceships and magic.

My favorite thing from SW? Headhunters and smugglers. Han Solo? He IS the real hero of SW4-6! (And he shot first)

Fireballs n blizzards? I'd watch that. I'm sure it'll involve Luke's kid from the several books that were made, it could be a redemption for the people who didn't like movies1-3

From what I've heard, Episode 7 is going to take place 100 or so years into the future so Disney can tell their own story (much like how Bioware did with Knights of the Old Republic).

On one hand, I REALLY don't have faith in Star Wars anymore due to the prequel movies. George Lucas, the man who created star wars, ruined it for me because he made the terrible 1-3 movies and so the appeal to see an Episode 7 is extremely low to me, and it's sad that I'm having to say this.

On the other hand, Disney has made some amazing movies. I mean I honestly can't say I've ever seen a Disney movie that I've ever regretted watching. Hopefully if they make a Star Wars movie, they'll use real stuff instead of green screen the entire time. Pirates of the Caribbean is one of my favorite series of movies simply because Disney had some really funny characters and a great story so it was fun for all ages. Lucas tried to make a film series that was fun for all ages, but failed in every way possible. So maybe there is hope after all for Star Wars now that Disney owns Lucas Films.

Star Wars episode 7: a new hope (for the franchise)
Seems legit. I'd love to hear the plot on that one. Now I'm kinda excited

Honestly, the franchise can only go uphill at this point, so I don't see what all the fuss is about.  Disney buying it might turn out to be a good thing, who knows?

After Star Trek of course, but that's a whole separate topic.

I've heard several tentative things about Episode 7, and I know Disney's reputation when it comes to sequels.
At this point I can only sit back and wait until they've actually got something, THEN I'll go into critic mode.

Star Trek seems realistic but if you think about it has some part that hard to accept.

I don't see why, pretty much every core technology in star trek has been mathematically proven or actually prototyped at this stage, warp drive is proven viable, NASA is building an impulse engine. Matter transmission was demonstrated years ago... And we actually have working hard light holograms now.

Still, the most realistic space sci fi is Firefly. :-P

As fro the Disney sequels, I take you you aren't looking forward to Ironman 3, or Thor 2, or the Hulk 2 (Which might be the first actual good Hulk film by current projections)?

Movies with 3 in the name don't exactly strike joy into my heart. Iron Man 2 I didn't find all that inspiring, and it seemed to me like they just needed to fill the gap before the Avengers (which btw I thought was very good, gonna watch the extended cut when it comes out). Unfortunately though, with all the remakes and sequels of the last few years, I'm just about out of cautious optimism for these new sequels. I'm saving it all up for Episode 7.

Yeah like Toy Story 3. There's yet another Disney subsidiary sequel that did not go well amiright?
No?
I think you're generalising. :-P

You're right of course, this latest thing is a reboot. Even still I cannot think of a handful of third installments that have been worth sitting through

Actualy wasn't Evil Dead 2 just a remake of Evil Dead 1? So Army of Darkness is Actually Evil Dead 2... And this reboot is Evil Dead Version 3.

I thought the first ended with Ash escaping, 2 had an older him fight more zombies but he lost his hand, giving him his iconic chainsaw n at the end he took a portal to the middle ages? Idk ill google it later XD
Title: Re: May the Disney be with you?
Post by: Astrobia on April 14, 2013, 05:46:04 AM
Pretty sure the only reason Ash is older in the 2nd film is by the time they made it Bruce Campbell was older... Evil Dead 2 is actually a parody of Evil Dead 1.

Star Wars to Evil dead?  odd how conversations go sometimes.

Anywhom, I'm just a tad worried about all the rumors of the original actors being in the new movie.  Anyone seen Carrie Fisher lately, yikes.

Though Harrison Ford's reaction to the question is amusing.

Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if the original cast made at least some kind of appearance. Maybe just a cameo.

Well, it isn't in the realm of unlikely ness that they could just recast the parts to slightly younger actors.... Though I bet Billy Dee Williams would still be cast.

Uh the showman policy is to exit on a high note. That means every performance should do so, it doesn't mean you should never get back on stage again.
Title: Re: May the Disney be with you?

But is Star Wars a performer or a production?
Title: Re: May the Disney be with you?
Post by: Astrobia on May 06, 2013, 11:30:37 AM
For productions they just have to leave you wanting more. Which is even easier because you can do that by being unsatisfying. :-P

So true. I guess if they come out with it, then I'll have to give it a go. Disney did, after all, learn me some great lessons growing up... Lessons which life is attempting to unlearn me, but nevertheless.

It will draw out the fans, if for no other reasons than to complain about how the old movies were better. :)

I had an interesting thought today.  What if Tron:Legacy was just a high budget proof-of-concept project for age regression CGI?  That being said, they could use the original cast to make, say the Thrawn trilogy from the book series.  They wouldn't need to find lookalikes because they could make better versions or the original actors.  Just a conspiracy theory I wanted to throw out there.

Very cool but I don't see how that involves Disney?

Muppets of that era would either be Jim Henson... or if it's a Sesame Street segment it's Children's Television Workshop. Jim Henson's company wasn't taken over by Disney until the early nineties and judging by the appearance of yon actor it doesn't look that recent.
