Nioh is the most fun I have had in a decade.

Dual Sword Ninja FTW.

Third person action RPG with horror overtones.

Often compared to Dark Souls in play-style,
it features a distinct Guardian Spirit system
as well as skill trees for weapon groups.

Weapons and armor have rarity tiers and randomized attributes, there are set items with thematic bonuses as well.

In the multiplayer aspect;
other player deaths can be accessed while online
to summon AI controlled revenants that are equipped
with and drop that player’s gear at the time of their demise.

You can also volunteer to be summoned for help.

The protagonist is locked as William,
an irish privateer betrayed by the british empire
in order to exploit his ability to detect crystalized soul material “Amrita”.

Your personal Guardian Spirit is forcably extracted,
and you chase them down to Japan where a British agent
has been creating Oni to empower the feudal war period.

You then get involved as a demonslayer working alongside  the likes of Hanzo Hattori and Leyasu.

Oh yeah; you can use Ninjutsu and magic!

Pirate, ninjas and magic. You can't ask more.
